“Made in U.S.A catalog”の反響は凄まじいものだった。そしてこの紙面に紹介されたLEVI'S 501、このカタログが発売されて１ヶ月も経たないうちに伊勢丹が５０１を輸入した。新聞に「噂の５０１ジーンズ直輸入」なる広告が出るほどだった。伊勢丹の前には長い行列ができたそうだ。僕の友人が伊勢丹に駆けつけた時はすでに５０１は完売していたらしい。このカタログが紹介した事によりLEVI'S 501は一気に有名ブランド・アイテムとなった。このとき伊勢丹はどのくらいの本数の５０１を輸入したのだろう？そして微笑ましい事に店員がくりかえし「五百一番（５０１）のジーンズは売り切れました」と言っていたそうだ。値段は７，０００円前後だったと思う。たぶんこれより少し遅れてMIURA& SONS(現 SHIPS)が５０１を店頭に並べたような記憶がある。→次回へつづく
