しかしこのアルバムにはストーンズ史上唯一のビル・ワイマンの作品が収録されている他「シーズ・ア・レインボー」では後にレッド・ツェッペリンのメンバーとなるジョン・ポール・ジョーンズがストリングス・アレンジを担当している。それだけでも意義がある。このアルバムの失敗？によってストーンズは目を覚ましたのかもしれない。次作「ベガーズ・バンケット」から原点回帰、ブルースとロック色の強い作品をそれ以降発表し続ける。そんなローリング・ストーンズが健在なのは周知の事実である。だがこのジャケットを見るにつけストーンズがビートルズを追っかけていた時代が僕はとても懐かしい。当時、ジョン・レノンは「ストーンズはビートルズに２ヶ月遅れをとっている」と皮肉を言ったことがある。レコード・リリースの情報を聞くたびにビートルズがこう来たなら次にストーンズはどんなカードを打ってくるんだろうって感じで僕は胸をときめかせた。今、音楽シーンを見渡してもそんなに意識して競り合っているアーティストは存在しない。レコード・ジャケットのヴィジュアルに於いても、そしてファッションやライフ・スタイルに至るまで、音楽がうんと期待できた時代だった。
