１９６８年をフォーククルセダーズは駆け抜けた。解散後、北山修はロンドンに遊学、翌年、大学に復帰。端田宜彦は「はしだのりひこ＆シューベルツ」でデビュー、北山修作詞の「風」を大ヒットさせている。そして加藤和彦も１９６９年４月「僕のおもちゃ箱」を発表、この曲も北山修の作詞であった。このシングルはグレン・キャンベル"Wichita Lineman"を意識した仕上がりでさほどヒットには繋がらなかった。
フォーク・クルセダーズ名義の最後のシングル「青年は荒野をめざす」は本人達不在のまま１９６８年１２月に発売された。ゆえに目立ったプロモーションは展開されずもっぱらラジオでのオン・エアが中心だった。解散２ヶ月後、加藤、北山＆端田、このメンバーでの３ショットとして最後の登場は１９６８年１２月３１日フジテレビ「スター千一夜」だった。ロンドンから帰国した北山修、シューベルツの活動を目前にした端田宜彦、そして翌年１９６９年１月２４日「加藤和彦 学芸会」＠渋谷公会堂を控えた加藤和彦、３人は冗談まじりに１９６８年を茶化した。そして番組の最後を「紅白歌合戦を観ないでフォーク・クルセダーズ・スター千一夜をご覧くださいましたお茶の間の皆さん、良いお年を！！」と言う言葉で締めくくった。
以後、この３人が揃って公式に顔を合わせる事は二度と無かった。
その後、加藤和彦と北山修は「あの素晴らしい愛をもう一度」を共作共演させて大ヒット、端田宜彦はシューベルツ解散後、「はしだのりひこ＆クライマックス」を結成、北山修と共作した「花嫁」を再び大ヒットさせた。しかしどのプロジェクトもフォーク・クルセダーズの衝撃を超えるものではなかった、少なくとも僕には。
その後、加藤和彦はサディスティック・ミカ・バンドを結成、クリス・トーマス・プロデュースの「黒船」は高い評価を受ける。ミカ・バンドが登場した７０年代初期、日本のミュージック・シーンは大きく変わろうとしていた。シンガー＆ソングライターの登場や自分たちの意志を持った（もちろんすべてが素晴らしい訳ではない）ロック・バンド、そして時代はニュー・ミュージックと言われるシーンに受け継がれて行く。このきっかけを作ったのがフォーク・クルセダーズである。フォーク・クルセダーズこそが日本のミュージック・シーンの開拓者であった。
そして音楽のみならずファッションからライフ・スタイルに至るまで常にその先端にいたのが加藤和彦であった。ビートルズは別として僕の人生に計り知れない影響を与えた重要な人物、それが加藤和彦だった。
ミカ・バンド解散以降、加藤和彦は夫人の安井かずみと素晴らしいソロ・ワークス作品を生み続ける。「パパ・ヘミングウェイ」（１９７９年）「うたかたのオペラ」（１９８０年）「ベル・エキセントリック」（１９８１年）、この３部作は後世に残る名盤である。アルバムのタイトルからして香り立つようなインテリジェンス、センスがほとばしる。
そして、２００２年、フォーク・クルセダーズが３４年の時を経て再結成された。だが、この時のメンバーに端田宜彦の姿は無かった。なぜ、端田が参加せずアルフィーの坂崎幸之助が代役を務めたのかは未だ持って謎である。
そして、２００９年１０月１６日、加藤和彦の自殺によってフォーク・クルセダーズは永遠に消滅した。加藤和彦の遺書から推察するに、彼は日本の音楽業界に失望してこの世を去ったようだ。それがすべての自殺の原因ではないと思う。加藤和彦が自ら命を絶った理由がなんとなく僕には理解出来る。それをここに書くつもりは無い。ただただ、残念であったというしかない。この「残念な気持ち」にはやり場の無い怒りも混じっている。
時間と共に物事は風化して行く。ビートルズでさえ知らない若者が最近は増えたと言う。
フォーク・クルセダーズ出現の衝撃を覚えている、そしてその偉業を評価する世代はもはや人生の収穫期を迎えている。
万物は流転して行く。
時の流れとはそう言うものである。
